MARCH HISTORICAL MEETING

"I’ll take Far West for $100.00." "What is the Banner County Museum?" These categories and answers could be heard at the Banner County Historical Society meeting held in March. The group chose from a "Jeopardy" board as Cheryl Burhart-Kreisel, Community Development Specialist of the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center, served as the game show host. It proved to be a fun way to learn just a few of the many interesting places to see in the Nebraska panhandle—landmarks, restaurants, parks, museums, etc.

COOKIES FOR THE TEA TABLE

We are again asking residents to donate cookies for the tea table for the museum’s open house. Please bring cookies to the museum on the 7th.
We thank you in advance. THANKS!

SPECIAL VISITORS

On Monday, April 28 nine students from North Carolina with their sponsors visited the museum. They are part of an exchange program with the Lake Minatare school. Each year students from both schools visit one another to learn about each other’s communities.

The students learned about the Flowerfield pioneer school program and participated in a penmanship class in the Flowerfield log school. Janet Gardner, a teacher from the program, conducted the class.

After touring the museum the students were off to visit the Nature Center in the Wildcat Hills.

(See pictures of the students on the web page in the photo gallery.)

IF YOU WERE BORN IN 1936

PLEASE NOTIFY US.

This year we will honor those Banner County residents, former residents and Banner County Historical members who were born in 1936. Please notify us if you fit this description. Call 436-7228 or 436-4271 or email the above address by June 1.

SPEAKER FOR MUSEUM

We are once again getting a speaker from the Nebraska Humanities Council for the afternoon entertainment at open house.

This year we are honored to have Cherrie Beam-Clarke. She is a Nebraska storyteller and educational speaker, giving programs for over 25 years to over 75,000 children and adults.

Cherrie will be returning to Banner County to follow up with the sequel to last years program. The family that she spoke of last year’s will migrate to western Nebraska.

We know that Cherrie is a great speaker and this will be another good program. We encourage you to attend it at the museum main building at 2:00 P M.

STAMP CANCELLATION

The Harrisburg postmaster, Glen Muhr, has again sponsored a contest for students to design a commemorative postmark.

This year the junior high art classes furnished the entries. The designs must pertain to something at the museum. The winner was chosen anonymously by members of the board. The U.S. postal service then makes the design into a rubber stamp to be used for postmarks on June 7 at our open house/historical celebration. Purchase a stamped envelope with the art work at open house.

This year’s postmark was designed by eighth grader Chelsea Wickard.

             LUNCH AT OPEN HOUSE

SUPPORT THE FOOTBALL TEAM

Lunch for Historical Day will be served by the BCHS football team. It will be served at the school cafeteria. Take this opportunity to support these young men and also get out of the heat in the air conditioned school to have a sit down meal.

RAFFLE

The Banner County Historical Society was recently given two lovely pictures painted by the late Banner County artist Lenora Miles. Since the museum already has several pictures by Lenora, we are holding a raffle. The tickets will be for sale during the Historical Day/ Open House; $1:00 each or 6 for $5:00. Two tickets will be drawn, with the first getting first pick of the two pictures. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will be used by the museum for upgrading the military corner. You need not be present to win.
